Time for a change?

I recently found this great article on sitting versus standing and thought you might be interested.

This article really struck a chord with me, given the recent changes I have made to my work set-up and the introduction of a sit/stand workstation. Having recently significantly increased the amount of standing I do during my work day I have certainly noted the benefits, mostly in my level of productivity, pain and fatigue levels. I am not afraid to admit that myself, like many others when sitting at my workstation that I suffered with neck and back pain, which certainly worsened with fatigue (especially later in the day). However with the introduction of standing to my work day, my pain has disappeared, in fact last week when I had woken with neck pain one morning, standing instead of sitting definitely helped me recover quicker than if I had remained sitting all day, which going by my track record would have actually worsened my pain. In addition, when standing I feel more productive and less fatigued, which in turn benefits my posture and overall health.

Making the change to a standing workstation is not practical for everyone or all workplaces, but there are small changes as the article suggests to help increase the amount of time you spend standing during your work day. So today – challenge yourself to make a small change. Have a standing meeting, or rather than sitting while on the phone, stand up and use the speaker phone, or rather than emailing someone in the office get up and speak to them face-to-face. Even these small changes, will make a difference to how your body feels at the end of the day.

So, what are you doing to look after yourself today?
